Stuck

I don't have direct experience with Multicultural offices, but my general understanding is that you can only get 'stuck' in one area of student affairs if that is all you focus on. Example: If all I ever focused on in my professional development, networking, research, and conferences was res life then moving out of res life would be difficult. But if I work to make sure my experiences and network are diverse (no pun intended!) then I will be able to transfer from one area to another more easily.   

Thanks. I will be sure to remember that. After some experience in higher education, I plan on teaching a couple of classes in the Education department.

"Stuck" - NEVER! I think the work we do in equity & diversity gives us a HUGE advantage over people without the immersion experience we live day in and day out.

I can't speak for everyone in "diversity" departments, but I know I have a much broader and deeper understanding of diversity issues that I'll take with me wherever I go. And I honestly think that organizations are, overall, valuing that experience more and more and that it'll be a huge selling point when I decide to move on.
